for West Burton C

Our project

West Burton C is a battery energy storage system (BESS) located in Nottinghamshire, on the site of the former West Burton coal-fired power station.

The project has received planning permission, and construction is expected to begin later this year.

The project is being developed by Fidra Energy.

Battery energy storage systems

Battery energy storage systems, known as BESS for short, are a proven, safe and low-cost technology that use groups of batteries to store excess electricity from renewable energy sources. This electricity is released to homes and businesses when needed.

Once complete, West Burton C will have enough capacity to power up to 300,000 homes. The project will help support a more secure and resilient electricity network.

The location of West Burton C

West Burton C is being constructed within the wider site of the former West Burton coal-fired power station, which closed in 2023.

Our site is located within one of the UK’s most strategically important energy clusters, alongside the existing West Burton B gas-fired power station and the proposed site of the UK’s prototype nuclear fusion plant.

The project’s location on the long-established energy site provides an efficient connection into the electricity network. The site is also well separated from residential properties and benefits from existing road access suitable for construction traffic.

You can see a drone video of the site below.
